The Sixth
International Study Conference on GEWEX in Asia and GAME (GAME Conf)
will be held at the Kyoto International Community House in Kyoto, Japan
for 3-5 December 2004 under the auspices of the World Climate Research
Programme (WCRP), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the
Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT),
and the Hydrospheric Atmospheric Research Center, Nagoya University
(HyARC).
The goals of the GEWEX Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME) are:
a) to understand the role of Asian monsoon in the global energy and
water cycle, and
b) to improve the simulation and seasonal prediction of Asian monsoon
and water cycle.
Intensive filed observations with enhanced radio sonde operations have
been conducted in key regions in Asia along with long-term monitoring.
The achievements of GAME were presented and reviewed in the last five
GAME Conf’s and the eight GAME International Science Panel meetings.
The GAME Phase II started in 2002 with recognition that:
a) excellent data have been obtained in the successful field
experiments,
b) local processes were well addressed,
c) synthesizing and cross cutting analyses were yet matured, and
d) modeling activity should be encouraged.
This GAME Conf will be the wrap up conference, and
deep discussion on the energy and water cycle of Asian monsoon and its
prediction should be given. The direction of the future study based on
the achievements of GAME will also be discussed.
